The Ring & The Lens – Proof of Concept (Chiang Mai Shoot)

Filmmaker is needed in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

I am producing a short proof-of-concept film in Chiang Mai for The Ring & The Lens, a queer-led sports drama about a Muay Thai fighter and a photographer. The goal is to capture the style and tone of the future series for festival submissions and investor pitches. I am seeking Chiang Mai–based collaborators, including a cinematographer/DP with camera and lighting equipment, a sound recordist for dialogue and ambient sound, and a production assistant for logistics and Thai ↔ English translation. The shoot will take place over two days, with stipends, meals, and transport provided. The visual approach should combine the raw intensity of sports dramas with the emotional softness of K-dramas, focusing on physical details and connection. Filming is planned for Fall/Winter 2025, with a final cut needed by early 2026. LGBTQ+ creatives and allies are especially encouraged to apply.

The visual style I’m aiming for blends the cinematic grit of Ryan Coogler’s Creed (moody training environments, visceral fight energy) with the emotional intimacy and visual softness of K-dramas and C-dramas, where lighting and framing highlight vulnerability and connection. I want the proof of concept to capture both the raw, physical intensity of Muay Thai and the tender, romantic tension between two women. The tone should feel grounded and natural, like Thai indie cinema, but elevated with a cinematic look that emphasizes sweat, breath, eye contact, and small physical details that speak louder than words.

I’m Nikki, founder and executive producer of SÈVENIX STUDIOS, an emerging queer-led production company. My focus is on LGBTQ+ storytelling that blends sports, romance, and representation. I’m currently producing a proof-of-concept short film in Chiang Mai for my upcoming series The Ring & The Lens, which will be used for sponsorship and festival submissions.
