Seeking Remote Vocalists for Research Project with leading karaoke app

We’re looking for experienced vocalists with professional at-home recording studios for a remote project with a leading karaoke app. We’re collecting vocal recordings to train advanced machine learning models of the human singing voice. This project is focused on capturing the natural, authentic diversity of singing, not mechanical perfection.

Project Details

Selected vocalists will remotely record “The Rainbow Passage,” a 7-minute piece broken into 22 short sections. You’ll perform the song in 12 different stylistic variations, such as breathy, nasal, or with heavy vibrato.

• Timeline: The entire assignment must be completed within 7 days of approval.
• Time Commitment: We estimate this will take approximately 2.5 hours to record after a few hours of practice.
• Payment: A fixed project rate of $250.

Requirements

• Must be 18 or older.
• Must be a professional singer with experience in vocal variations.
• Must be able to sing in fluent English
• Must have a professional home recording studio with the following capabilities:
  • Microphone: Large-diaphragm condenser mic (e.g., Neumann U87).
  • Preamplifier: Transparent with no coloration.
  • Signal Chain: No EQ, compression, or effects.
  • Acoustics: Dry, balanced, and with minimal reflections.
  • Gain Staging: Conservative with ample headroom and no clipping.
• Must be able to record in either Pro Tools, Logic Pro X or Ableton. A template session will be provided.
• Record at a 96kHz sample rate and 24-bit depth (32-bit accepted).
• Deliver final files in WAV or AIFF format.
