Job Description
Our client, an innovative independent game development studio, is seeking a creative and talented Remote Senior Video Game Composer to craft original musical scores for their upcoming titles. This is a unique opportunity for a composer with a passion for interactive media to contribute their artistic vision and technical skills to visually stunning and emotionally resonant games, all from a remote location.
The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to compose diverse musical styles, adapt to different game genres, and work closely with the development team to enhance the player’s experience through immersive audio. You will be responsible for creating high-quality original music, developing leitmotifs, and potentially implementing adaptive or interactive music systems. Your ability to manage your workflow independently and deliver exceptional results on time will be key.
Key Responsibilities
- Compose original musical scores for video games across various genres.
- Develop thematic material, melodies, and ambient soundscapes that complement gameplay and narrative.
- Collaborate closely with game designers, audio directors, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and artistic direction.
- Create music that evokes specific emotions and enhances player immersion.
- Implement adaptive or interactive music systems where required, ensuring seamless transitions.
- Manage audio assets, ensuring proper formatting and organisation.
- Record, mix, and master all musical compositions to a professional standard.
- Source and manage any required session musicians or vocalists.
- Meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality musical output consistently.
- Stay current with industry trends in game music composition and audio technology.
- Provide creative input and contribute to the overall audio vision of the game.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrable experience as a video game composer, with a portfolio showcasing a range of styles and successful projects.
- Proficiency in digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Logic Pro X, Cubase, Pro Tools, or similar.
- Strong understanding of music theory, composition techniques, and orchestration.
- Experience with virtual instruments and sample libraries.
- Knowledge of game audio middleware (e.g., Wwise, FMOD) is a plus.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively in a remote team.
- Ability to interpret game design documents and provide musical solutions.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A passion for video games and interactive entertainment.
- Degree in Music Composition, Sound Design, or equivalent professional experience.
