Job Description
Join the award-winning team that created God of War. Santa Monica Studio is seeking an experienced VFX Artist for the development of a new unannounced title. This role involves contributing to the artistic vision and technical advancement of products, focusing on creating groundbreaking visual effects systems, tools, and workflows. As a Senior Staff VFX Artist, you will serve as a technical and creative leader, collaborating with various team members to achieve artistic excellence and technical innovation.
Responsibilities
- Create world-class visual effects across environmental effects and cinematic sequences.
- Lead the development of VFX workflows and pipeline tools using Maya, Houdini, and Python.
- Pioneer advanced simulation techniques for real-time 3D fluids and other effects.
- Drive initiatives focused on real-time simulation architectures and integration workflows.
- Develop solutions for visual fidelity challenges.
- Model, texture, animate, and optimize visual effects using Maya.
- Lead technical conversations and establish roadmaps for visual aspirations.
- Partner with Design, Narrative, and Cinematics teams for storytelling enhancement.
- Serve as a thought leader while mentoring artists to establish best practices.
- Manage time effectively and communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Take ownership of specialized VFX domains and R&D efforts.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience in visual effects for interactive media.
- Expert proficiency in Maya for VFX creation.
- Advanced Houdini expertise for real-time simulation development.
- Advanced programming and scripting skills in Python, MEL, and VEX.
- Deep understanding of real-time simulation architectures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of real-time rendering principles.
- Exceptional artistic vision and technical problem-solving abilities.
- Proven leadership and mentorship experience.
- Outstanding communication and organizational skills.
- Self-motivated adaptable to various work priorities.
Preferred Experience
- Shipped AAA game(s) contributing to award-winning VFX.
- Experience in interactive environmental systems.
- Knowledge of voxel-based rendering techniques.
- Experience in graphics programming and optimization.
- Technical leadership roles with mentorship experience.
- Familiarity with version control and collaborative development tools.
- Understanding of engine integration principles.
- Background in film/TV VFX or research environments.
- Experience with emerging rendering technologies.

Compensation and Benefits
The estimated base pay range for this role is $143,700โ$215,500 USD. This role is also eligible for SIEโs top-tier benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, matching 401(k), paid time off, wellness programs, and employee discounts for Sony products. Additionally, this role may qualify for a bonus package.
