The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of game audio principles, a mastery of various musical genres, and the ability to collaborate effectively with development teams using sophisticated digital tools. You will be responsible for composing original music, managing audio assets, and ensuring the seamless integration of sound into the gameplay experience.
Responsibilities
- Compose original, high-quality musical scores for video games, spanning diverse genres and emotional tones.
- Collaborate closely with game directors, audio leads, and narrative designers to interpret creative briefs and translate them into compelling musical pieces.
- Develop adaptive and dynamic music systems that respond to in-game events and player actions.
- Create thematic material and motifs that enhance character development and world-building.
- Manage and organize musical assets, ensuring proper licensing and adherence to project timelines.
- Implement music using game audio middleware (e.g., Wwise, FMOD) and game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
- Conduct music editing, mixing, and mastering to ensure professional audio quality.
- Provide feedback and guidance on sound design elements to ensure cohesive audio experiences.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in video game music composition and audio production.
- Mentor junior composers and contribute to the growth of the audio team.
- Present musical concepts and works-in-progress to the development team and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition, Music Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience composing music specifically for video games.
- A strong portfolio showcasing a wide range of musical styles and adaptability to different game genres.
- Proficiency in Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Cubase, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, or Ableton Live.
- Experience with game audio middleware like Wwise or FMOD.
- Understanding of music theory, orchestration, and contemporary music production techniques.
- Excellent creative vision, artistic sensibility, and ability to evoke emotion through music.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, vital for remote work.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a dynamic development environment.
- Familiarity with music notation software (e.g., Sibelius, Finale) is a plus.
