Position: Freelance Web Designer

About the Company:

Elescend Marketing is a fast-growing Toronto-based digital marketing agency supporting startups and small businesses across North America. We specialize in SEO, paid ads, content marketing, website management, and social media strategy. We are seeking an experienced and versatile Freelance Web Designer to collaborate with us on a per-project basis. You will be responsible for designing clean, modern, high-converting websites for our clients using platforms such as WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace, and others. This is a remote contractor role, and the ability to deliver high-quality work within project timelines is essential.

Key Responsibilities & Deliverables

Your primary responsibility will be to design user-friendly, visually compelling, and conversion-focused websites. This includes:

• Website Design (Figma + CMS): Create wireframes, UI layouts, and final designs in Figma, then build or implement them in platforms such as WordPress, Wix, Shopify, and Squarespace.
• Landing Page & Website Build-Out: Design and develop landing pages, full websites, product pages, and service sections with strong visual hierarchy and clear user flow.
• UX/UI Improvements: Evaluate existing websites and provide recommendations on layout, structure, navigation, readability, and overall user experience.
• Brand & Visual Consistency: Ensure design elements align with client branding, tone, and strategic goals across all pages and sections.
• CMS Configuration: Set up themes, templates, plugins, apps, and integrations across multiple CMS platforms.
• Responsive Design: Ensure all designs and final builds are optimized for mobile, tablet, and desktop.
• Collaboration: Work closely with our marketing and SEO team to ensure websites support campaign goals, conversion objectives, and best practices.
• Revisions & Optimization: Implement feedback efficiently and refine designs based on performance insights or client requests.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional web design experience, ideally within an agency environment or working with multiple clients.
• Strong proficiency in Figma for wireframing and UI design.
• Hands-on experience with major CMS platforms: WordPress, Wix, Shopify, Squarespace (bonus: Webflow).
• Solid understanding of UX/UI principles, layout structure, visual hierarchy, and responsive design.
• Ability to turn brand guidelines and creative briefs into polished, functional website designs.
• Familiarity with plugins, themes, apps, and CMS-specific tools.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Clear communication skills, reliable workflow, and the ability to work independently.
• A portfolio showcasing website designs (preferably both Figma design files and live sites).

This is an independent contractor position, not an employee role. The selected freelancer will be responsible for their own schedule, software, equipment, and tax obligations. For each project, we will provide clear briefs, timelines, and defined scopes of work.
