Job Description

The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for providing musical accompaniment for Catholic Masses and associated rehearsals for the Catholic Community at McConnell Air Force Base. This is a non-personal services contract for a Music Director/Musician/Accompanist, working in coordination with the Wing Chaplain or designee and in cooperation with the Catholic Priest.

Requirements

The musician shall:

• Have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience playing music in a tradition comparable to a Catholic Mass/Worship service.
• Be able to sight read music.
• Demonstrate proficiency in playing piano (preferably, and alternatively organ).
• Demonstrate knowledge of choral harmony.
• Demonstrate musical proficiency to accompany a volunteer cantor and/or choir for congregational singing.
• Show the ability to play a wide range of musical selections.
• Play hymns from the chapel hymnal and the current Catholic Missalette.
• Work with chapel staff personnel and volunteers of all religious backgrounds respectfully.
• Have knowledge of Catholic teachings, customs, and traditions.
• Understand the order and intent of worship at Sunday services and special occasions.
• Maintain professionalism in dealing with diverse religious beliefs.
• Read, write, and speak fluent English.
• Provide a resume to support qualifications.
• Respond to directions from the Catholic Priest and collaborate with volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities

The musician shall:

• Provide services at the Base Chapel or an alternately prescribed location on McConnell Air Force Base.
• Play and lead music for contracted Catholic Masses and services as directed by the Catholic Priest.
• Coordinate music support requirements with the Catholic Priest and assigned Chaplains.
• Be present at least 30 minutes before services for rehearsals and last-minute coordination.
• Adapt music performance to changes in service times and content.
• Custodially manage musical supplies and materials used in practice sessions.
• Maintain a professional and orderly performance area post-rehearsal or service.
• Conserve energy and secure the facility after use.
• Perform at 52 weekly Mass/worship services on Sunday and 52 weekly rehearsals, along with up to 18 special events/services as needed.
• Present a professional demeanor and appearance.
• Plan and coordinate music selections with the Catholic Priest ahead of time.
• Select hymns tailored to meet worship needs.

Period of Performance

The period of performance for this agreement for service is up to five years.

Hours of Operation

Standard Duty Hours: Mass is currently scheduled for Sunday at 0930, and rehearsal on Wednesday at 1800. Each service and rehearsal is one hour long, with a requirement to arrive and set up 30 minutes prior.
