Job Description

Metropolis Media Group is a multi Emmy® award-winning boutique T.V. commercial production house based in Los Angeles, primarily producing high-end political and environmentally oriented T.V. ads, documentaries, and digital/social media video campaigns for clients. We tell stories that matter and are looking for a fast, talented, imaginative, and driven video editor with excellent motion graphics skills for a freelance/contractor position. Applicants from any state in the USA are welcome, as skills are more important than location.

As a freelance video editor, you will create impactful and persuasive :30 and :15 second commercials from client scripts. This involves editing filmed footage mixed with stock footage enhanced by motion graphics, or creating commercials solely from motion graphics and animations. Adaptation for digital content across platforms like Instagram and Facebook stories is also required.

Requirements

• Strong and efficient video editing skills with the ability to craft words on screen and shape cuts quickly through multiple iterations.
• Ability to identify notable lines and best takes from interview footage for ads, understanding tonal nuances and inflections.
• Excellent research skills for finding appropriate stock footage and audio selection to fit the narrative.
• Strong ability in motion graphics, including conceiving, laying out, designing, editing, and shaping high-quality layered motion graphic commercials.
• Technically proficient in managing and editing raw video footage from various cameras (Arri Alexa, Red, Sony) with excellent skills in color grading.
• Proficient in efficient editing workflows and familiar with tools like Frame.io, Google Drive, and Slack.
• A reliable editing system at home with a fast internet connection; well-versed in the latest motion graphics processes, methods, and plugins.
• Knowledge of conforming and adapting finished TV ads into multiple formats for social media platforms.
• Ability to communicate quickly and effectively with clients (who are also directors) to share design perspectives and handle change requests efficiently via email.
• Ability to work unsupervised and collaborate, delivering against tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Strong quality control skills and attention to visual detail.
• Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and technical problem-solving skills.

Experience

• 3+ years in editing and motion graphic design/animation experience.
• Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects & Premiere or Final Cut Pro).
• Experience in political TV commercial editing is an advantage.
• A degree or similar experience/interest in Political Science is advantageous.

Work/Production Timelines

This is a freelance/contractor position recruited on a per-project basis. The average commercial takes several days to a week to complete, including client reviews. Daily/weekly rates can be negotiated, and payments are made within 48 hours of receiving invoices.
