Job Description

Santa Monica studio is looking for a Sr Environment Artist for development of a new unannounced title. This is an opportunity to contribute to the artistic vision and development of a product with a specialized focus on creating environments and level assets. As a Senior Environment Artist, you will effectively collaborate with a wide range of development team members outside of your direct discipline to optimally achieve artistic goals and implementation as they relate to design and technological considerations.

Responsibilities

  • A high-level contributor to the development of artistic techniques and processes for creating environments.
  • Content creation, including 3D modeling/sculpting, 2D texture map painting, material setup/UV layout, and LOD creation.
  • Maintain artistic direction and vision through all phases of game development.
  • Skilled in level art workflow including assembly, set dressing, lighting, and asset composition.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of the game’s design to support communication and identify issues early.
  • Take ownership of specific regions of the game environment and facilitate information needs in the art creation process.
  • Mentoring artists, including on-boarding new artists and giving timely feedback.
  • Resolve moderately complex artistic development issues for team members.
  • Collaborate with production to develop a task list that aligns with project goals.
  • Clearly communicate updates and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Actively improve skills by keeping aware of industry trends and techniques.

Requirements

  • 5+ years industry experience or related experience.
  • Two or more published titles are considered a strength.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • Strong traditional fine art skills relevant to game development.
  • Proficient in Maya (or other 3D modeling packages), Zbrush, Substance Designer, and Substance Painter.
  • Familiarity with video game product development workflow and tools.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under minimal direction to determine and develop solutions.
  • B.A. in fine arts or relevant curriculum or equivalent skillset.

Preferred Experience

  • Houdini experience.
  • Previous leadership experience in games.

Additional Information

The estimated base pay range for this role is $115,900—$173,900 USD. Individual base pay may vary based on job-related factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role is also eligible for benefit offerings including medical, dental, and vision.
