I am looking for a creative and detail-oriented cinematic travel video editor to work on my personal travel videos. These videos are for personal use and will be posted on my social media or YouTube to preserve my travel memories. Most of the footage is amateur, shot on a Samsung phone, and consists of many clips. I need someone patient who can carefully review all the footage, organize it efficiently, trim out unnecessary moments, and maximize the use of the captured content. I want a cinematic film feel rather than a vlog style, with a strong emphasis on story flow, music selection, transitions, and overall cinematic storytelling. The editor should organize all footage, plan the flow, select music thoughtfully, clean up and improve the raw footage, enhance the cinematic style, and apply color correction. My priorities are to achieve a truly cinematic final video and include as much usable footage as possible. Please ensure your editing style matches the cinematic travel references provided and be prepared to complete a test edit before hiring.

About the client
I am looking for a highly creative and detail-oriented cinematic travel video editor for my personal travel videos. This project is not for commercial use. The final videos will be posted on my social media accounts or YouTube, but the main purpose is personal: I want to preserve my travel memories and create something beautiful that I can watch again whenever I want to relive my experiences. Most of my footage is amateur and shot on a Samsung phone, but I usually record a large amount of clips. Because of this, I need an editor who is patient, thoughtful, and not rushed, someone willing to carefully review all footage, organize it properly, trim it well, and make the most out of what was captured. My priority is not just to produce a visually impressive video, but also to preserve as much of my travel footage as possible. I strongly prefer an editor who can include a high proportion of usable clips rather than leaving too much footage unused. This is very important to me because the video is meant to serve as both a cinematic piece and a memory archive. I am not looking for a vlog-style edit. I want the final result to feel like a cinematic travel film, visually beautiful, emotional, immersive, and professionally crafted. Creativity is very important, especially in areas such as: •Story flow and pacing
•Music selection
•Transitions
•Speed ramping and slow motion
•Masking and fades
•Color correction
•Sound design and sound effects
•Overall cinematic storytelling Please review my reference videos below before applying, as they represent the exact editing style I want: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkVjzFGxL4nCzbYG56L658LxZq7Fh9yVH&si=vb1huedhpMPUkwpl Please note that I will require a test edit before making a final hiring decision WHAT I NEED FROM THE EDITOR : 1. ORGANIZE ALL FOOTAGE BEFORE EDITING
Sort all footage into folders based on the part of the video structure they best fit Suggested folders:
•Opening Hook – the most interesting and visually striking footage, iconic footage of the location; stock footage may also be added
•Exploration Phase – where most of the remaining footage will likely go
•Peak – the most powerful, cinematic, and impactful clips
•Slow-down / Closing – emotional, calm, or reflective clips Create a separate folder for excluded footage, such as clips that are shaky, blurry, duplicated, or otherwise unusable, so I can clearly see what was not included. NOTE: The music selection will be based on the sorted footage and its estimated duration 2. REVIEW ALL FOOTAGE FIRST AND PLAN THE FLOW
Before starting the full edit, I want the editor to watch all footage first and understand the overall story, mood, and possible structure of the video. 3. BUILD THE EDIT AROUND A CINEMATIC STRUCTURE
The intended video structure is: •Opening Hook
•Title
•Exploration Phase
•Peak
•Slow-down / Closing NOTE: Add Intro flash cuts (fast preview of the opening hook footage for 1-2 seconds); see video references 4. SELECT MUSIC THOUGHTFULLY FOR EACH SECTION
Music is extremely important. The editor should choose music that enhances the emotion and cinematic quality of the video. Suggested direction:
•Opening Hook and Title – Genre: Trailer, Cinematic/Ambient
•Exploration Phase – Mood: Uplifting/Carefree/Love/Romantic/Chill (Vocal or non-vocal)
•Peak – Epic/ Electronic
•Slow-down / Closing – Mood: Emotional/ Peaceful/ Sad (Vocal or non-vocal) NOTES:
Transition music by CROSSFADING or through cinematic sound effects (boom, whoosh, riser) or ambient sound effects (like city noise) Music must come from a licensed music library 5. CLEAN UP AND IMPROVE THE RAW FOOTAGE
The editor should:
•Trim the head and tail of clips properly. Remove dead space, especially where I am pulling out the camera, setting it up, or stopping the recording
•Straighten tilted shots
•Reframe footage that looks uncentered or poorly composed
•Apply Warp Stabilizer or equivalent stabilization to shaky footage when needed
•Sharpen blurry or grainy clips, when possible, as long as the result still looks natural 6. ENHANCE THE CINEMATIC FEEL
The editor should use:
•Slow motion or speed ramping whenever it fits the music and improves the cinematic feel
•Transitions and visual effects where appropriate, while keeping everything cinematic and tasteful
•Sound effects (such as transition SFX, ambient layers, foley details, cinematic impacts, and environmental textures) NOTE:
TRANSITIONS TO USE (depending on the availability of footage)
•Straight cut
•Motion blur / whip pan transition
•Mask transition
•L-Cut / J-Cut (Audio Transitions)
•Light Zoom transition (not too much)
•Fade in / fade out (not too much)
•Flash / light transition (not too much)
•Match cut AVOID
•Spin
•Glitch
•Cube, page turn, flip, or 3D transitions 7. VIDEO COLOR CORRECTION (NOT COLOR GRADING)
I do not want the footage to look dull, flat, or overly muted. I prefer a look that is naturally vibrant, clean, colorful, lively, still cinematic and polished 8. ADD THE TITLE OTHERS
Again, my main priorities are:

  1. A truly cinematic final video
  2. Inclusion of as much usable footage as possible Please apply only if your editing style genuinely matches the cinematic travel references I provided.
