Job Description

Genesis Technical is seeking a Video Editor 1 for a contract position in downtown Birmingham, AL. Video Editors play a critical role in bringing visual stories to life, contributing significantly to the impact and success of video content across various platforms and industries. Candidates must submit a portfolio or sample work showcasing prior video editing projects to highlight their editing style, technical skills, and ability to produce polished, engaging content. Links to online portfolios (e.g., Vimeo, YouTube, personal website) are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Video Editing: Use video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Camtasia, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve) to edit raw video footage into a cohesive and visually appealing final product.
  • Selection: Review and select the best shots and sequences from raw video material to create a coherent narrative or visual story.
  • Visual Effects: Enhance videos with visual effects, graphics, text overlays, and animations to convey information and effectively engage viewers.
  • Sound Editing: Edit and mix audio elements, including dialogue, music, and sound effects, to ensure high-quality audiovisual content.
  • Color Correction: Adjust and enhance the color, contrast, and brightness of video footage to achieve the desired look and mood.
  • Transitions: Create smooth transitions between shots and scenes to maintain the flow of the video.
  • Storytelling: Collaborate with directors, producers, and content creators to understand the video’s purpose and message, translating that into the final edit.
  • Feedback Incorporation: Review and incorporate feedback from clients, directors, or stakeholders to refine and improve video projects.
  • File Management: Organize and manage video files, ensuring projects are well-structured and easily accessible for future use.
  • Format Optimization: Adapt video content to various formats and platforms, such as social media, websites, and mobile devices.
  • Rendering and Exporting: Prepare final video projects for distribution by rendering and exporting them in the appropriate formats and resolutions.
  • Quality Control: Perform quality checks to ensure that videos meet technical specifications and industry standards.
  • Stay Current: Stay updated on industry trends, video editing techniques, and software advancements to enhance skills and capabilities.

Requirements

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in film, media production, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Video Editing Experience: Proven experience as a Video Editor, often demonstrated through a portfolio of past work. A minimum of 1-year job experience is strongly preferred.
  • Video Editing Software: Proficiency in video editing software Camtasia is required. Experience with Adobe After Effects is strongly preferred.
  • Creative Skills: Strong creative and artistic skills to craft engaging and visually appealing videos.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail to ensure visual and audio continuity and consistency.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and clients and understand project requirements.
  • Problem-Solving: Problem-solving skills to address technical issues and challenges that may arise during the editing process.
  • Time Management: Excellent time management skills to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality work efficiently.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to different video styles, genres, and client preferences.
  • Teamwork: Collaborative mindset to work effectively with directors, producers, and other creative professionals.
  • Portfolio: A strong portfolio showcasing a range of video editing projects and skills is often required.

Additional Information

This position is considered “hybrid”: a 40-hour work week, consisting of 4 days in the office and 1 day remote (usually Friday).
