Job Summary
The Office of Marketing and Communications seeks a motivated and creative student worker to join our team. The position will provide first-hand experience in social media content strategy, management, development, and production. Applicants must be avid and sophisticated social media consumers and users, familiar with platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok to create engaging content for UM-Flint’s followers. The selected person will collaborate with the office’s social media specialist on long-term projects and monitor analytics.
Students applying for this position should be sophomores, juniors, or seniors and preferably possess strong interests and skills in marketing, content creation, public relations, and/or social media, with a curiosity for researching emerging social media trends.
Responsibilities
Social Media:
- Participate in brainstorming sessions for content across various social media platforms, focusing on short-form videos and TikTok.
- Produce videos to portray UM-Flint’s brand positively.
- Create content for UM-Flint’s official social media channels.
- Collaborate with the social media specialist and photographer/videographer on content creation.
- Write captions for social media posts appropriate to the audience and platform.
- Monitor competitors and peers for trends.
- Understand the role of photography, graphics, and videography in social media engagement.
- Stay updated with social media trends and assist with reviewing campus partner social media channels for collaboration opportunities.
Event Coverage & Schedule Flexibility:
- Attend major campus events to capture photo and video content for social media.
- Assist with live or real-time content coverage such as Instagram Stories and behind-the-scenes content.
- Support content coverage at major events including Move-In Day, commencement ceremonies, and student life events.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must be UM-Flint sophomores, juniors, or seniors and should have strong interests and skills in marketing, content creation, public relations, and/or social media, alongside a curiosity for researching emerging social media trends.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and creativity.
- Proficiency in using social media platforms and content management systems.
- Basic understanding of digital marketing principles and practices.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
- Familiarity with video editing tools (both in-app and dedicated applications like Adobe Premiere) is preferred.
- Demonstrate reliability and flexibility for high-impact university events.
- Comfort in interacting with students, staff, and event attendees while capturing content.
Modes of Work
Hybrid work mode allows for both onsite and offsite work. Employees are expected to have a recurring onsite presence and may be required to work onsite more frequently when necessary.
Work Schedule
Part-time, flexible hours to accommodate the student’s academic schedule, approximately 10-15 hours per week.
Additional Information
This position is eligible for internship credit for juniors and seniors enrolled in ART 398: Internship in Art, which must be approved by both their Academic Advisor and CASE’s Internship Program Manager.
