Job Description

The Video Editor leads The Penn’s video content strategy by producing, editing, and managing video content across digital platforms. This role is responsible for creating engaging video journalism, short-form content, and podcasts that complement written reporting and expand the newspaper’s reach. The Video Editor plays a key role in strengthening The Penn’s digital and social media presence through videos and reels that capture campus news, events, and student life. The position requires 10-12 hours per week, with additional time potentially needed around major campus events.

Requirements

Position Qualifications
Required:

  • Experience with video recording and editing
  • Technical proficiency with cameras, microphones, and editing software
  • Familiarity with video and/or audio editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Audition)
  • Strong storytelling and communication skills
  • Interest in digital journalism or multimedia production

Preferred:

  • Previous multimedia, video journalism, or podcasting experience
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms

Essential Functions

  • Plan, produce and edit video content for The Penn’s digital platforms
  • Create and edit short-form videos and reels for social media platforms
  • Produce and edit podcast episodes and audio-based content
  • Collaborate with editors and reporters to develop multimedia story ideas
  • Assign and oversee video or audio projects with staff contributors
  • Edit footage and audio for accuracy, clarity, and storytelling impact
  • Ensure all multimedia content meets journalistic, ethical, and branding standards
  • Coordinate publication schedules with the social media and digital teams
  • Maintain organized video and audio files and archives
  • Attend weekly editorial meetings and contribute to content planning
