Job Description

The Government of Alberta’s Technology and Innovation team is seeking Senior Full Stack Developers to support the development, modernization, enhancement, and maintenance of digital applications.

The role involves working across frontend and backend technologies, contributing to technical discovery and solution design, developing and testing software, collaborating with product and design teams, and supporting modern Agile software engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in technical discovery, solution design, and requirements analysis.
• Translate business and technical requirements into effective technical solutions.
• Design and develop scalable full-stack applications, reusable components, frontend features, backend services, and APIs.
• Work with modern JavaScript frameworks and backend technologies.
• Create technical diagrams, architecture documentation, and development documentation.
• Develop new features, enhancements, and application modernization solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application defects.
• Conduct code reviews and promote software quality and maintainability.
• Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests.
• Collaborate with UX/UI designers, product teams, and Product Owners.
• Provide technical advice and guidance to Product Owners.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and iterative development activities.
• Support application deployments and production launches.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, development tooling, and engineering practices.

Requirements

Mandatory Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of experience using Git or other source-control systems in collaborative development environments.
• At least 5 years of full-stack development experience in complex Agile environments.
• At least 3 years of experience developing automated unit and integration tests.
• At least 3 years of experience working with database technologies.
• At least 3 years of experience developing production applications using modern frameworks and frontend JavaScript frameworks.
• Completion of a Conflict of Interest attestation.

Nice-to-Have Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience supporting legacy-to-modern digital transformation initiatives.
• At least 1 year of experience with generative AI or agentic tooling, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and prompt design.
• At least 2 years of experience with Angular, React, or Vue, combined with .NET Core, Node.js, or Python.
• At least 2 years of experience applying software architecture principles and design patterns.
• At least 2 years of experience following Government of Alberta development guidelines.
• At least 2 years of experience with CI/CD practices and tooling.
• At least 2 years of experience working with UX, service design, or human-centred design teams.

• Location: Edmonton, Alberta
• Work Arrangement: Primarily remote within Canada, with up to 10% onsite work or travel in Edmonton as required
• Contract: One year, with potential extension up to 24 months
• Hours: 36.25 hours per week, based on 7.25 hours per day
