Job Description

The Water Valley Company is seeking an independent Video Editor to provide project-based editing services for its Community Relations & Marketing department.

The Video Editor will transform raw footage into polished, client-ready videos for marketing campaigns, community events, real estate, corporate communications, and social media. The role requires strong storytelling, pacing, visual composition, and proficiency with a professional non-linear editing system, preferably DaVinci Resolve.

Responsibilities include assembling and editing footage, applying color correction and grading, building or applying LUTs, mixing and enhancing audio, and adding music, sound effects, titles, graphics, motion graphics, and visual effects where required. The editor must deliver files in the formats specified for web, social, broadcast, or presentation use.

The contractor will incorporate feedback within the agreed revision rounds, meet project deadlines, and maintain the confidentiality of all company, client, and project information under a signed NDA.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience editing complete, client-ready video projects.
  • Proficiency in at least one professional non-linear editor (NLE).
  • Access to a computer, editing software licenses, and equipment necessary to complete the work.
  • Strong storytelling, pacing, editing, and visual composition skills.
  • Willingness to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement before beginning work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of professional video editing experience.
  • Experience with color grading and LUTs.
  • Proficiency in Adobe After Effects for motion graphics and visual effects.
  • Experience editing wedding, real estate, or corporate videos.
  • An established freelance or video editing business serving other clients.

Editing Software

  • Preferred: DaVinci Resolve
  • Secondary: Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Also accepted: Final Cut Pro
  • Additional advantage: Adobe After Effects

Compensation and Contractor Terms

The engagement rate is $300 per project, depending on experience and project scope.

The contractor will invoice The Water Valley Company monthly, with payment due Net 30 from receipt of invoice. A completed Form W-9 is required before the first payment, and a Form 1099-NEC will be issued annually.

This is an independent contractor position. The contractor is responsible for their own taxes, insurance, equipment, transportation, and business expenses and is not eligible for employee benefits.

Working Arrangement

  • The contractor sets their own work hours and location and determines how the work is performed.
  • The company will define project deliverables, deadlines, and the number of revision rounds.
  • The contractor may provide services to other clients, subject to confidentiality obligations.
  • Occasional on-site meetings or event coverage may be arranged by mutual agreement.
  • The contractor must provide their own transportation and insurance for on-site work.
  • When working on company premises or at company events, the contractor must follow applicable safety, harassment-free, drug-free, and nonsmoking policies.

Confidentiality and Ownership

  • All deliverables, raw footage, and project files become the property of The Water Valley Company.
  • Company footage and finished videos may not be publicly shared or used in a portfolio or reel without written company approval.
  • At the end of a project or the engagement, the contractor must return or delete company footage and files and surrender any system or drive access.
  • The contractor must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement and Independent Contractor Agreement before beginning work.
