Ran Livneh is a Brooklyn-based acoustic and electric bassist, composer, and producer whose collaborations span a wide spectrum of globally acclaimed artists, including Kaleta Leon Ligan-Majek (Fela Kuti), Brian Chase, Stephen Ulrich (Big Lazy), Liraz, Gili Yalo, Ismael Kouyate, Anbessa Orchestra, Habbina Habbina, and Tamar Eisenman. As both a bandleader and co-leader, Ran helms projects such as Underground Spiritual Game (Vibromonk Records), the post-jazz soundscape trio dustlights (Ropeadope Records), Tea Masters (Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit Records), and the double bass quartet Adnata Ensemble (Fallen Moon Recordings). Ran’s work blends acoustic and electronic sounds, with a distinctive focus on groove and improvisation, drawing from Jazz, Afrobeat, Ethiopian, Gnawa and Mediterranean music. His original compositions have been featured at prestigious cultural events, including the 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, the Rockaway Film Festival, and the Museum of Wild Newfangled Art. Ran’s work has been broadcast internationally, with airplay on outlets such as Worldwide FM, KEXP, and WFMU. Since 2018, he has also pioneered soundscape projects, collaborating with practitioners of dance, yoga, meditation, and breathwork to provide live soundscapes for large group practices. Ran holds a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Double Bass Performance from The Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem, where he studied with Maestro Dr. Michael Klinghoffer. He has also pursued studies with prominent artists Ben Street and William Parker and has studied counterpoint with Judith Berkson.
