CookieWP – cookie consent plugin for WordPress

Brief: a free, self-hosted cookie consent plugin for WordPress that keeps tracking scripts switched off until the visitor agrees, without sending visitor data to a third-party consent service.

What I built

• Consent notice with Necessary / Statistics / Marketing / Other categories, light and dark mode, custom colours and CSS
• Server-side script blocking: recognises Google Analytics, Google Ads, GTM, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn, Hotjar, Clarity, Matomo, YouTube, Vimeo and Google Maps in the page HTML and keeps them inert until consent
• Google Consent Mode updates for gtag.js
• Local, anonymous consent statistics (no IP addresses or names stored)
• Auto-generated privacy policy text, WPML / Polylang multi-language support
• Accessible: keyboard navigation and screen-reader support
• Admin settings page with homepage diagnostics (recognised requests, blocked markup, visible cookies)
• Signed self-hosted update channel (SHA-256 verified packages)
