Pàrasoul is LA based singer songwriter & producer whose breezy indie pop fuses slick r’n’b and lilting folk into beautiful, instant hooks that are easy to digest, but sometimes hard to swallow. Influenced by Coldplay, Damien Rice, John Legend and Hans Zimmer, to name but a few, Pàrasoul is the spiritual umbrella protecting the soul from the pouring rain of chaos in the world. Stephen Baumann, aka Pàrasoul, was born and raised in the small rural town of Rio Vista, California, to working class parents. His mother was a sign painter and father a chef and restaurateur. Stephen was born with many complications and was often sick in the ICU as a baby. He found the guitar in his teens and began a love affair that took him to Los Angeles to answer his soul’s calling. A chance encounter with actor Terrell Carter led to collaborations and friendships, including one with hit-songwriter and music manager Michael O’Connor, who mentored Stephen until his tragic death. Stephen wrote songs and played shows, got introduced to industry people, veterans and moguls, but his break wouldn’t come. Disillusioned, he bought a one-way ticket to Hawaii to reset. Stephen played on the streets, in bars and clubs to make enough money to live. The rest of the time he hiked and rode his bike in the mountains, discovering a new love for poetry and rediscovering his love of songwriting. Deciding he wasn’t going to try to “make it” anymore, Stephen started writing music to make the soul happy and ignite true passion from within, paving the way for positive change on a collective level of consciousness. The word parasol literally means umbrella and it plays a significant role In Buddhism, meaning to shelter one from the evils trying to penetrate the aura. Changing the spelling to Pàrasoul helped Stephen understand that music is a safe place, a retreat, a respite; a place of calm and excitement; a place of thrill and chill; a place to feel yourself in a world of confusion and chaos. “If my music touches the heart of one person, then I’ve done my job. If that one person changes the lives of many, then I’ve fulfilled my destiny.” For Fans of Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, José Gonzales, Miguel, The 1975, Coldplay, Paolo Nutini, Foy Vance, Damien Rice, Death Cab for Cutie, The Police, The Beatles.
