Recent graduate at the University of Toronto. Open to providing freelance services in my areas of expertise. Being proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and Autodesk Software, I can help with many clients’ projects and needs revolving around graphic design, 3D development, and front-end coding. My currently prioritized skills are in Web Dev and design, as well as Virtual and Augmented Reality worldbuilding in Unity, Meta Horizon, Engage, and Spatial.io.

AR (Augmented Reality) is an increasingly ubiquitous and popular technical method of representation where digital elements overlay the real environment. In this artist statement, I will outline the inspiration, process, and demonstrations behind an innovative calligraphy tool. Firstly, I have been writing Chinese calligraphy since childhood and produced Fai Chun/Chunlian on my own. These are red paper banners that stick around the main door or entrance of buildings to wish for good fortune and prosperity as a Chinese New Year tradition. If brush ink calligraphy can be replicated with AR, then anyone with the source code can draw without purchasing physical writing tools. Using Hooke’s Law to simulate brush strokes, a creative coding blog, is another inspiration source by integrating physics to elevate this experience (Moussa, 2021). Instead of the mouse cursor, pinch detection from either hand controls the brush strokes, adjusting brush size and on/off toggle.

Although the Meta Quest 3 appears to be a consumer electronic product, its production relies on a global division of labour where different forms of work receive very different rewards. Across the chain, high-risk and repetitive tasks such as mining, processing, and assembly are treated as replaceable inputs, while high-value tasks like design, standard setting, and ecosystem control are concentrated in firms’ power positions (Lee & Gereffi, 2021). Through the lens of “circuits of labour,” we argue that value is not created in the most labour-intensive sites and then distributed fairly, instead it is captured by actors who can monopolize knowledge and coordinate control across the production network (Qiu et al., 2014). Our map traces key locations in the Quest 3 life cycle to compare types of labour and their rewards. It also shows how modern logistics make this spatial separation workable, letting firms coordinate far-flung suppliers while keeping high-value control centralized (Ganapati & Wong, 2023).

For the duration of the AutoVerse project, I primarily contributed to the technical development aspects, from the MVP to the final website. Starting with the first project plan assignment, I proposed many concrete ideas for both the front-end and back-end of the website, but they were constantly modified due to time constraints. I demonstrated to other members of the group how Wix works as a powerful front-end development tool and explained the back-end possibilities through Velo mode. Also, I wrote about how we will use Figma solely to build prototypes and wireframes for AutoVerse, along with potential graphic design tools in Adobe Creative Cloud. Lastly, I outlined several ways AI can be leveraged effectively to build AutoVerse with Wix. Ultimately, our group discovered that we can use Figma Make to automate the website-building process, and it is free under the education plan. As part of the fourth assignment, I polished the AutoVerse MVP slightly to address feedback and prepared it for user evaluations. Overall, I contributed most effectively to the sixth assignment, which involved implementing a 3D showroom using pre-made models from Sketchfab and local development in Visual Studio Code, rather than in Figma. This stage was challenging, especially when I realized I couldn’t carry forward the full VR and AR functionality from Assignment Two. To finish, I made a last-minute but effective decision to import pre-made Sketchfab 3D car models as an HTML embed rather than building a new immersive ecosystem from scratch. This significantly made AutoVerse a more advanced website for users to explore their desired vehicles in 3D.
