Award winning International Composer, Ian McGregor Smith, has been composing music for film, television, animated works, radio, dramatic and musical theatre for over 30 years.
He has been fortunate to have held three compositional Artist in Residencies in Osaka Japan, Kyoto Japan and Windsor Canada (University Of Windsor School Of Dramatic Art). Ian has also enjoyed being an International musical artist and composer with opportunities to to perform and conduct his own compositions in concert halls, music festivals and music nightclubs globally on 4 continents.
Ian’s international musical endeavours include a 10 year successful collaboration composing music for the traditional Japanese musical ensemble “Shikandaza”. This very unique sonic blend of East / West was dubbed a new type of “Japanese Jazz”. Ian continues to be a musical ambassador with his latest collaboration with Algerian artist Amar Amarni and his partner Croation Singer Jazmina Petrovic. It was in 2020 when Ian decided to put composing ahead of all other musical activities so presently Ian spends most of his professional time composing music for media including Film Television and Animation.

“Vampire Zombies From Space” directed by Michael Stasko for The DOT Film Company is a Horror Comedy Feature Film set in 1950’s Rural America. Marlow county is being attacked by Vampire Zombies from Space and the humans must fight back to avoid being taken over. It is a Vampire movie, Zombie movie and Space move all wrapped up into one. Vampire Zombies from Space is in select theatres globally and is winning many awards including 2 nominations for best musical score.
A New Television Series entitled “Strange Tales Of The South Shore” for Bell Television directed by Ken Amlin for KRA Productions. This 4 episode series takes you on a mysterious haunted journey surrounding some of South Western Ontario’s favourite ghost stories and haunted tales.

The “Price Of Freedom” is the story of former slave, John Robinson and his arduous journey to freedom through the Underground Railway between Detroit, Michigan, USA and Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
Narnia The Lion Witch and The Wardrobe by C. S. Elliot is a well known fantasy about 4 siblings who travel through a wardrobe into a mysterious magical fantasy world where they become friends with the woodland creatures, trees of the forest and of course, the all powerful lLion king Aslan. Together they fight the powerful Ice Queen and her evil henchmen, including the wolf Maugrim and the other evil creatures of Narnia. This theatrical Dance / Ballet Adaptation Created by and Choreographed / Directed by Tiffany Chan for WDX allowed for an Epic Fantasy Musical Score of 27 different pieces. “Callback” is a dramatic short film that tells the story of two friends auditioning for the same role and the competition that it brings out in them. It shows how true friendships can be challenged but yet continue.
“Aperture” is a Dramatic short film that tells the story of a Photographer’s heartbreak from a break up and his ultimate journey back from the loss of his relationship making him ready for a new one.
“Let’s Talk Generations” is an intergenerational television talk show featuring a musical segment in each episode by one of the guests. This program can be seen on CFTV community television.
