Creative Analysis

Target Audience

The primary audience for this work is young adults. We specifically target viewers with a strong interest in experimental animation, stop-motion animation, and art-house cinema. The story is designed to prompt deep reflection after viewing. Furthermore, by combining stop-motion with 2D elements, we aim to engage a broader audience and invite them to explore the production process and the creative origins behind the work.

Animation Genre

Experimental Animation; Hybrid Animation (Stop-motion combined with 2D).

Creative Background, Motivation, and Purpose

Creative Background and Motivation
The motivation for this project stems from the fact that stop-motion animation has been a less common choice for graduation projects in our department in recent years. In addition to stop-motion, we have integrated 2D animation to enhance the visual appeal and entertainment value. Our goal is twofold: first, to create a work that stands out immediately among the vast array of 2D animations; and second, to challenge ourselves by mastering the intricate techniques of stop-motion, a medium we rarely explored in the past.
Creative Purpose
By incorporating “meta-fictional” elements into the screenplay, we allow our protagonist, Jimmy, to break the fourth wall. As Jimmy realizes he is a puppet controlled by others, we want the audience to empathize with those moments in life when one feels a lack of agency. Ultimately, when Jimmy steps out of the artificial set, we hope to inspire the audience to break free from their own constraints and embrace their own authentic moments.
