💣THE CHALLENGE
Every year, almost twenty thousand people descend on Swinburne’s campus to experience Open Day. Unfortunately, 2020’s COVID-19-related statewide lockdowns removed the opportunity for universities to be on display, leaving students unable to experience and assess Swinburne’s offerings and environment, critical parts of making an informed decision about their academic future.
💭THE IDEA
Our solution was the creation of Swintopia, Swinburne’s first online, interactive, gamified Open Day experience.
Swintopia is a virtual reimagination of Swinburne’s campus, featuring stylised versions of the university’s most iconic buildings, landmarks and of course, its people. Through a guided journey (or free-roaming exploration) you uncover Swinburne’s real stories, told online by the university’s own professors, students and alumni.
But it’s not an Open Day without a tote bag. Students are given one that they can fill with important things like study guides, as well as fun stuff: discounts to local cafes, vouchers to the cinema and more. Game mechanics such as digital collectibles, interactive quests and even an achievement system, are a key part of Swintopia –helping drive engagement with prospective students whilst they learn about the university’s broad range of career paths.
💥THE RESULTS
Swintopia was a resounding success, and it has become part of the Swinburne University brand as an enduring asset.
124.5% YoY uplift in lead capture.
30% growth in VTAC first preferences (YoY)
18% more VTAC preferences overall (YoY), the highest increase amongst all Victorian universities.
Boosted domestic online course applications from campaign microsite channel by 70%
