In this short but epic battle between Iron Man and War Machine vs. Hammer Drones, I add my own score to build the scene to its climactic end. #filmscore #filmmusic #music

There was very little in terms of music for the Big Short as the film was laden with so much fast talking New York business language, but I enjoyed scoring this little scene from the film for a little professional challenge. Listen in as I bring the audience into the drama unfolding on screen. #filmscore #filmscoring #filmmusic
In general, I try to NOT watch cues with score in order to ensure my own creative judgment isn’t incurred upon. Writing this cue was a particular challenge as at keyframe 01:27:45:21, my initial assessment was that the score should end. Bruno’s death is already known to the audience, therefore scoring, in my assumption, was moot, as his family is in the midst of discovering it. Knowing this, I still wanted to create something to bring the audience along in the discovery process and feel the anguish of his mother’s grief. The complex nature of this scene caused me to view the original cue James Horner wrote upon my creative conclusions, as well as Mark Herman’s directorial decisions on the score. I felt relief when Herman made the same decision my initial instincts had told me. Yet, I wrote past keyframe 01:27:45:21 in order to carry on the narrative. Admittedly, this feels melodramatic. However, it is my best effort to capture, in music, this tragic end.
