    Acquired MVP WordPress website handover from third-party agency. Tidied up delivery to ensure it was fit for purpose and launched on schedule. After that, additional features were scoped, designed and developed in conjunction with a designer. I translated the designs from Figma into HTML, CSS/SCSS and JavaScript, generally in the form of Gutenberg blocks alongside the Advanced Custom Fields plugin, also utilising various internal and third-party APIs to retrieve and display data.

    Assisted HR in hiring a permanent junior developer to take ownership of the project, including interviewing and setting a technical test to assess suitability, and then mentored the new hire for two months before handing over full control.

    paper Manchester Metropolitan University - Rise microsite

    Tasked with restoring order to a heavily customised but apparently bug-ridden WordPress microsite with no internal technical support. Initial priorities discussed with the team to establish requirements.

    The majority of issues present were caused by scale - the custom system built on top of the WordPress CMS was originally designed based on a small dataset, but over time this has grown exponentially and caused inefficiencies in both coding practices and data management/queries.

    These were improved by handing off some of the larger data management tasks to command-line interfaces where browser timeout limits would not be able to have an impact, and rebuilding some key processes to run more efficiently.
