Following the discontinuation of the legacy system (SAGERS), the DFFE required a ground-up rebuild of the SAIGE platform to manage South Africa’s greenhouse gas inventory. The challenge involved navigating extreme data density and complex calculation logic while facilitating high-stakes collaboration between internal government departments and external industry stakeholders. With stringent and complex regulatory requirements in place, the goal was to transform a defunct process into a streamlined digital workflow. We focused on establishing a clear information architecture that prioritised data integrity and user accuracy, ensuring that the interface facilitates a workflow that could handle multi-sectoral inputs without compromising usability or the precision required by global climate protocols.

Despite healthy onboarding rates, the then platform's value proposition didn't drive consistent engagement; existing features weren't enough of a daily hook to drive consistent logins. It was viewed as a static asset rather than a functional tool, resulting in low login rates, membership renewal frictions and a disconnect between the physical tap and digital engagement. We shifted the focus from a passive digital business card to an active lead-generation ecosystem. By integrating "Tap-to-Lead" capture flow and AI card scanning, the app became a vital CRM utility. This shift necessitated the analytics dashboard overhaul, turning "trapped" backend data into actionable growth insights for users.

The legacy site suffered from a high cognitive load and an Information Architecture (IA) that was fragmented. Deeply nested navigation obscured key content, while a weak visual hierarchy and lack of strategic Call-To-Actions (CTA) created significant friction in the user journey. Key trust signals and content, like social proof, were buried within the IA rather than leveraged as conversion drivers. The site required a heuristic overhaul to simplify the mental model, allowing users to navigate fluidly between content layers without friction.
