Hailing from Mumbai, Ananya Sharma is a singer, composer, producer and engineer whose musical background combines formal training in Western styles of music, with cultural exposure to Indian music growing up. As a result, she is an artist who is passionate towards creating music that celebrates her cross-cultural influences.
Starting her musical journey at the True School of Music in 2018, Ananya obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Music, from Vijaybhoomi University in 2022. Subsequently, she completed her Masters in Music at Berklee València in 2023 with a focus on songwriting and production in her study. Acknowledged for her dedication and academic excellence, Ananya received the outstanding scholar award during her time at Berklee Valencia, along with a Berklee scholarship at the commencement of her Masters. More recently, she was granted the Berklee Fellowship award to support her post-masters internships.
Ananya’s core influences include artists like Sufjan Stevens, Bjork, Becca Stevens, Genevieve Artadi and more, shaping her as a versatile vocalist, songwriter and producer with an ear for diverse sounds and styles. Having simultaneously pursued a keen interest and higher education in psychology while studying music, there is also an application of that learning experience in Ananya’s artistry, through lyrical intention, and consistently aiming to explore the entire spectrum of mental health, human emotion and experience in her writing.
Since 2018, Ananya has actively contributed to Mumbai’s independent music scene, with her own projects; as a founding member of former vocal trio ‘Queendom’ and solo project collaborations with notable figures like Sanjay Divecha and Anurag Naidu. While at Berklee Valencia, she developed as an engineer/ producer, and assisted with various projects and recordings for fellow artists. Currently, she is working as an assistant engineer to renowned producer/ engineer Nic Hard. In assisting Nic, Ananya has also closely assisted producers such as Michael League, Bob Lanzetti and more.
Side by side, she is developing her catalog as a solo artist, producing her 8 track debut LP soon to be released called ‘A Junkyard Wonder’. This album is a collection of songs bringing together Ananya’s contemporary folk, chamber pop, indie rock and electronica inspired influences!
