Top Drone Video Datasets of 2022

Finding high-quality drone video datasets can be tricky, especially if you need particular demographics, lighting conditions, or video durations.

That’s why at Twine we specialize in helping companies create custom drone video datasets and will help you get the data you need, no matter the demographics or requirements.

If you’re specifically looking for an off-the-shelf dataset then we’ve done the hard work for you.

Without further ado, here are the best drone video datasets for you.

Here are our top picks for the Best Drone Video Datasets out there:

1. The VisDrone2019 Dataset

The VisDrone2019 dataset is collected by the AISKYEYE team at the Lab of Machine Learning and Data Mining, Tianjin University, China.

The benchmark dataset consists of 288 video clips formed by 261,908 frames and 10,209 static images, captured by various drone-mounted cameras, covering a wide range of aspects including location (taken from 14 different cities separated by thousands of kilometers in China), environment (urban and country), objects (pedestrian, vehicles, bicycles, etc.), and density (sparse and crowded scenes).

Note that, the dataset was collected using various drone platforms (i.e., drones with different models), in different scenarios, and under various weather and lighting conditions.

2. Mini-drone Video Dataset

The Mini-drone Video dataset consists of 38 different contents captured in full HD resolution, with a duration of 16 to 24 seconds each, shot with the mini-drone Phantom 2 Vision+ in a parking lot. The dataset contents can be clustered into three categories: normal, suspicious, and illicit behaviors. Normal content depicts people walking, getting in their cars, and parking their vehicles.

3. Multi-Target Detection and Tracking from a Single-Camera in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs)

The Multi-Target Detection and Tracking from a Single-Camera in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) dataset comprises 50 video sequences of 70250 frames with a 30 fps frame rate. They are recorded by a GoPro 3 camera (HD resolution: 1920 x 080 or 1280 x 60) mounted on a custom delta-wing airframe.

For each video, there are multiple target UAVs (up to 8) that have various appearances and shapes. We manually annotate the targets in the videos by using VATIC software to generate a ground-truth dataset for performance evaluation.

4. The HighD Dataset

The HighD Dataset is a new dataset of naturalistic vehicle trajectories recorded on German highways.

Using a drone, typical limitations of established traffic data collection methods such as occlusions are overcome by the aerial perspective. Traffic was recorded at six different locations and included more than 110 500 vehicles.

Each vehicle’s trajectory, including vehicle type, size, and maneuvers, is automatically extracted. Using state-of-the-art computer vision algorithms, the positioning error is typically less than ten centimeters.
