Job Description

This is a biweekly temporary, donor-funded graphic design position. The successful candidate will design and typeset a children’s book about Iowa’s African American history, designed to accompany the third-grade Social Studies lessons in the Davenport Community School District. Responsibilities include working with various team members to conceptualize, design, and prepare press-ready files for print.

Requirements

• Substantial work experience or coursework in book design and typesetting
• Experience in preparing print specs and press files for commercial offset printing
• Demonstrated experience in graphic design projects
• Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop, or equivalent design programs
• Experience optimizing digital images for print
• Experience in designing books to specification and budget

Desired Qualifications

• MFA in Book Arts
• Three or more years of work experience in book design and production
• Experience in graphic design for K-12 education
• Knowledge of typographic and editorial standards
• Experience working with illustrators and editors on book production
• Experience with UI Printing Services

Additional Information

Compensation: $25/hr for a total of 160 hours ($4,000)
