Job Description

This is a biweekly temporary, donor-funded graphic design position to design and typeset a children’s book about Iowa’s African American history. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to conceptualize, design, and layout the book for third-grade social studies classrooms in the Davenport Community School District.

Requirements

Required qualifications:

• Substantial work experience or coursework in book design and typesetting
• Experience in the preparation of print specs and press files for commercial offset printing
• Demonstrated experience working on graphic design projects
• High proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop
• Experience optimizing digital images for print
• Experience designing books within specifications and budget

Desired qualifications:

• MFA in Book Arts
• Three or more years of work experience in book design and commercial book production
• Experience in graphic design for K-12 education
• Working knowledge of typographic and editorial conventions
• Experience coordinating with illustrators and editors in book production
• Experience ordering book production from UI Printing Services

Compensation

$25/hr, total of 160 hours ($4,000)
