Job Description

The Social Media Manager/Strategist will develop and implement social media strategies that align with Maryland Athletics’ strategic priorities. Responsibilities include managing social media accounts, creating engaging content, monitoring trends, analyzing data and metrics, and interacting with fans. The role requires a strong understanding of social media platforms and the ability to collaborate with staff on content production. The individual will oversee all social media content and campaigns, aiming to increase brand awareness, enhance fan engagement, and support revenue generation initiatives. The ideal candidate will define and drive social strategy, tone, voice, and audience targets.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in social media, digital media, communications, marketing, or revenue generation
  • Proven track record of developing successful social media campaigns
  • Data-driven with strong analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with social media platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat)
  • Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop)
  • Proactive planner with attention to detail and creativity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong research capabilities
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working in a Division I collegiate athletics department or professional sports organization
  • Track record of successful social media campaigns that increased attendance and fan engagement
  • Expertise in metrics and analytics creation for reporting
