Build me a working sci-fi door!

Hi, I’m Anna, and I am looking to create something out of this world [!] in my apartment. The concept is a kind of space age retro futurism - think original iconic pieces of furniture from the 60s and 70s blended with up to date, functional sci-fi influences… the entire apartment is the long-term project but in the short term I’m looking for someone to help me design [and potentially build] some automatic doors in a Star Trek/Star Wars style - probably with a push panel or switch for privacy!

I have spent time discussing my plans with ‘conventional’ architects, and they are great up to a point, but it has become increasingly clear to me that I need someone capable of thinking a little more outside the box to be adventurous and creative with concepts, materials and textures, and help get me closer to the magic in my head - so who better than a set designer?!

The ideal candidate will partner with me to conceptualise, conceive, and advise on how the doors could look, and what is actually possible. At the very least I need someone to help answer questions and come up with specifications for builders/craftspeople to work from, and also ultimately oversee the project/construction. The best case would be someone who is also able to build it themselves - or provide a team they are familiar with to help do so.

I am really excited at the prospect of thinking about - and ultimately creating - something fantastic. The project should be fun to work on and, when completed, something spectacular to add to a portfolio. Obviously experience building sets for sci-fi shows/movies would be a fabulous starting point but a keen interest in doing so is also fine :)
