Job Description
The Junior Graphic Designer provides essential design support to the creative team for the NSF TechXccelerator Program Support Activities and TIP Directorate communications. The Designer will assist with creating visual materials, maintaining brand consistency, and supporting multi-channel design efforts under the guidance of the Senior Graphic Designer. This role offers opportunities to develop expertise in federal agency design standards and science communication while contributing to high-impact program materials. The Junior Graphic Designer will gain experience with accessibility compliance, brand management, and diverse design applications.
This is a remote position with occasional travel to NSF headquarters in Alexandria, VA and program-related events.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
- Support development of curriculum visual materials and presentation templates
- Assist with creation of infographics, digital graphics, and social media content
- Help maintain brand consistency across all program materials and communications
- Support design of reports, briefing materials, and educational resources
- Assist with template development and design system maintenance
- Help ensure all designs meet accessibility and Section 508 compliance requirements
- Support web graphics and digital platform design needs
- Assist with design review processes and quality control activities
- Help coordinate design assets and maintain organized file systems
- Support TIP Directorate design activities as needed
- Assist with print production coordination and digital publishing
- Help maintain design libraries and style guide documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or related field and 2+ years of related experience
- Familiarity with NSF branding and design
- Ability to apply design knowledge to moderately complex assignments
- Demonstrates growing expertise in visual communication and brand consistency
- Functions effectively as part of a design team
- Experience with design software and basic brand guideline implementation
- Understanding of accessibility principles and federal design standards
- Basic knowledge of multi-channel design and digital platforms
- Familiarity with print and digital production processes
- Ability to learn and apply technical design concepts
- Ability to work collaboratively and take creative direction effectively
- Strong attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills
