Job Description

The Health Insider (THI) is a Canadian digital health media platform aimed at delivering timely, evidence-based content and practical health resources for healthcare consumers in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape. THI is searching for a creative, health-literate Part-Time Social Media Manager to enhance its daily presence across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn. The successful candidate will be passionate about digital storytelling, proficient in health and wellness communication, and capable of translating complex topics into engaging and platform-specific content suitable for a diverse audience from Gen Z to Boomers.

This freelance, remote, part-time role (approximately 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday) entails developing, scheduling, and posting content daily in line with The Health Insider’s editorial calendar, as well as engaging with trending conversations, seasonal health topics, or breaking news. The Social Media Manager is also expected to assess existing channels and submit a strategic proposal aimed at improving reach, engagement, and consistency — a key component of the selection process.

Key Responsibilities

Content Creation & Posting:

  • Produce high-quality, platform-specific content (short videos, reels, graphics, stories, posts) for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
  • Repurpose editorial articles into compelling, visual-first social media formats.
  • Develop timely content around trending, seasonal, or emerging health topics.
  • Write engaging captions and optimize hashtags.
  • Maintain a consistent visual identity using tools such as Canva.
  • Experience with paid social, particularly Meta.

Community Engagement:

  • Monitor engagement, track audience sentiment, and suggest improvements.
  • Respond to comments and messages, fostering an interactive online community.
  • In conjunction with the editorial team, identify and engage with influencers, thought leaders, and relevant partners.

Analytics & Reporting:

  • Track, analyze, and report on social media metrics and performance.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations for improving reach and engagement.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the editorial team to align posts with ongoing articles, campaigns, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure brand consistency across all channels.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience managing social media for a brand, media outlet, or health-focused organization.
  • Strong visual storytelling and short-form video editing skills (Canva, CapCut, Reels/TikTok editors).
  • In-depth understanding and regularly updated knowledge of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn algorithms and best practices.
  • Excellent creative, copywriting, and design skills.
  • Ability to adapt tone and style for diverse audiences (Millennials to Boomers).
  • Familiarity with Canadian healthcare issues, wellness trends, and patient advocacy.
  • Skill in translating scientific or medical information into accessible, engaging content.
  • Reliable, self-directed, and deadline-driven, with the ability to manage development and posting of multiple formats on 4 different platforms each week.
  • Based in Canada and authorized to work there.

Application Requirements

Applicants are required to include the following in their submissions:

  • A brief letter of interest (max 500 words).
  • Resume or short bio.
  • Links to recent social media accounts or campaigns you’ve managed.
  • Your proposed monthly retainer or rate.
  • Two references (optional but preferred).

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Fluency in platform-specific content creation.
  • Understanding of health and wellness communication.
  • Ability to post consistently and work independently.
