Lead Editorial Designer (Temporary, Part-Time)

Southwest Weddings is seeking an Editorial Designer to support the layout and production of our print magazines during an upcoming production cycle. This is a temporary, part-time position (10–15 hours per week) ideal for an experienced editorial or publication designer with a strong eye for print design and typography. This role is focused on editorial layout and print execution and does not include sales, marketing, or administrative responsibilities.

The Editorial Designer will be responsible for the editorial layout and design of print magazines from concept through final production. Responsibilities include designing and maintaining page templates, grids, and style systems; ensuring visual consistency, hierarchy, and pacing throughout the publication; collaborating with the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team; preparing print-ready files and managing revisions efficiently; incorporating advertiser artwork while maintaining editorial standards; and meeting strict production deadlines and print specifications.

A portfolio is required for an interview invitation. Job runs from Feb 1-Apr 1.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years experience in editorial, magazine, or publication design
• Expert proficiency in Adobe InDesign
• Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
• Strong understanding of print production and prepress standards
• Excellent typography, layout, and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines
• Ability to provide own computer and Adobe Creative Suite software

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience designing lifestyle, wedding, fashion, or luxury publications
• Previous experience working on multi-page print magazines
• Familiarity with advertiser or sponsored content layout
• Ability to work in person in Albuquerque or Santa Fe
• Experience collaborating closely with editorial and creative leadership

Additional Information

This is a temporary, project-based role with flexible scheduling and runs from Feb 1-April 1. The position is ideally in person (Albuquerque, NM) for a local candidate. In-person collaboration may be required depending on production needs.

Job Types: Contract, Temporary

Pay: $21.00 - $28.00 per hour
