Job Description

Join Family Focus Media as a Graphic Designer and Art Director (part-time, 1099 Independent Contractor) in the Philadelphia area. We’re preparing to publish our annual magazines featuring our Main Line Parent, Philadelphia Family, and Bucks County Parent Best for Families in three publications this spring, with a concentrated production timeline in May. We’re looking for a creative partner who can bring fresh vision to our established brands—someone who thinks beyond layout to help shape the overall visual story of each issue. This remote, project-based role requires someone local to the Greater Philadelphia area who can work independently, communicate proactively, and adapt as magazine scope evolves based on sponsorship response. You’ll work directly with our Founder & CEO through regular Google Meet check-ins, collaborating on creative direction from cover concepts to the final print-ready files.

Responsibilities

• Provide art direction and creative vision for three separate Best for Families magazines
• Collaborate on cover photo concepts and overall visual storytelling approach
• Develop and execute our neighborhood theme throughout the publications
• Design and lay out magazines using InDesign, improving and refining our existing templates with fresh, clean design thinking
• Polish and enhance client-submitted advertising artwork—we take pride in making our clients look their best
• Create original graphics and design elements that bring our hyperlocal communities to life
• Prepare print-ready files for our printer
• Communicate proactively about creative recommendations, progress, and challenges

Requirements

• Local to Greater Philadelphia area (required)
• Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
• Strong art direction and conceptual thinking skills
• Exceptional communication skills and time management
• Ability to work independently and adapt to changing scope
• Eye for clean, fresh design that honors established brand guidelines while bringing innovative ideas

About This Opportunity

This is seasonal work focused on our spring Best for Families production, with potential for continued collaboration on our fall Women of Influence magazines and other seasonal projects.
