Freelance Sign Designer (1099 Contractor)

Location: Denver Metro Area

Compensation: Competitive based on experience

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Signage Designer to support our growing signage department. This is a 1099 independent contractor position for a detail oriented professional with a strong background in the sign industry. The ideal candidate will be capable of producing accurate, production-ready sign packages for both interior and exterior signage projects.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop complete signage packages for multi-family commercial projects.
• Create production ready, vectorized artwork and files for manufacturing.
• Develop ADA compliant interior signage layouts and specifications.
• Prepare detailed material callouts, fabrication details, and installation notes.
• Design interior and exterior sign programs, including wayfinding, monument signs, wall signage, channel letters, and other custom sign types.
• Coordinate with project coordinator on all aspects of the project.
• Revise and update drawings based on client feedback and project requirements.

Requirements

• Qualifications:
• Required: Previous experience in the signage industry.
• Strong understanding of sign manufacturing methods, materials, and fabrication processes.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and other industry standard design software.
• Experience creating vector artwork and production ready files.
• Knowledge of ADA signage requirements, layouts, and compliance standards.
• Ability to interpret architectural plans, elevations, and construction documents.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with sign shops, sign manufacturers, or architectural signage firms.
• Familiar with permitting requirements and sign code considerations.
• Experience preparing sign location plans and installation drawings.

Work Arrangement

• Freelance Independent Contractor (1099)
• Flexible schedule
• Primarily remote, with preference given to candidates located in the Denver Metro Area for occasional site walk meetings
