Job Description
Newsweek is seeking a U.S.-based Social Media Freelancer to provide weekend coverage for a three-month assignment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced digital environment and enjoys engaging audiences across platforms. The freelancer is expected to complete key deliverables on Saturday and Sundays from 8:00 am ET to 7:00 pm ET to ensure Newsweek’s social presence remains active, timely, and aligned with editorial priorities over the weekend.
Requirements
- Prior experience managing social media accounts for a brand, publication, or organization.
- Strong understanding of social platforms, trends, and best practices.
- Ability to work independently and make quick editorial judgments.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Weekend availability is required.
- While this is a remote position, the candidate must be US-based.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Scheduling & Publishing: Post and manage content across Newsweek’s social media channels (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Threads, WhatsApp, Reddit, and LinkedIn).
- Engagement, referrals, and monetization to be driven through creating and scheduling four posts per hour while working closely with the editorial to ensure timely and accurate content.
- Audience Engagement: Monitor comments and trends; respond appropriately to foster community interaction.
- Real-Time Coverage: Collaborate with editors to amplify breaking news and trending stories during weekend hours.
- Analytics & Reporting: Track performance of weekend content and provide insights to the social media team.
- Increase weekend social referrals and monetization through carefully crafted content that engages with Newsweek’s active readership.
- Brand Consistency: Ensure all posts reflect Newsweek’s voice, editorial standards, and visual identity.
- Collaboration: Communicate with editorial and digital teams to align social strategy with newsroom priorities.
Compensation
Hourly pay rate: $20-30/hour, commensurate with experience.
