Job Description

Deadwood Fabrication is seeking a highly organized and technically skilled Draftsperson/Graphics Specialist to support our scenic fabrication, retail, experiential, and custom build projects on a freelance, as-needed basis. This is a remote, W-2 position focused on leveraging Rhino3D and Adobe Creative Suite to turn approved concepts into accurate, build-ready documentation and CNC-ready production files for the shop floor. You will work closely with Project Managers, Fabricators, and CNC operators to ensure projects move efficiently from design through fabrication.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of drafting experience within fabrication, scenic construction, millwork, or custom production environments
  • Strong Rhino3D proficiency (required)
  • Strong Adobe Creative Suite proficiency, specifically Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop (required)
  • Understanding of fabrication methods, CNC workflows, and practical construction processes
  • Experience preparing CNC files and production documentation for fabrication shops
  • Familiarity with Laguna CNC routers and VCarve Pro
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings, construction details, and production requirements
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Create, organize, and maintain Rhino3D files and associated project documentation based on client-provided design direction
  • Create graphic proofs using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to ensure client files adhere to Deadwood Fabrication guidelines
  • Produce clear client-facing drawings that reflect approved finishes, materials, and dimensions
  • Produce clear shop drawings that reflect real-world fabrication methods and assembly processes
  • Submit drawing packages for Project Manager review and efficiently incorporate revisions and markups
  • Identify material conflicts, structural concerns, or fabrication issues before production begins
  • Coordinate closely with CNC operators to ensure clean, efficient part output and delivery
  • Support fabrication team with updated drawings and troubleshooting throughout the build process
  • Continuously improve drafting workflows, file organization, and production efficiency
  • Maintain East Coast hours

CNC & Production File Responsibilities

  • Create CNC-ready cut files for Laguna CNC routers
  • Prepare nested sheet layouts optimized for material yield and production efficiency
  • Generate clean toolpaths, cut depths, tabs, pocketing operations, and engraving paths as required
  • Verify file accuracy, dimensions, material orientation, and machine compatibility prior to production
  • Coordinate directly with CNC operators to troubleshoot machining issues and improve workflow efficiency
  • Maintain organized file structures for machine-ready production output and revision tracking
  • Understand tolerances, tooling limitations, kerf considerations, and fabrication sequencing for CNC production

Additional Information

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
