Job Description

The UI/UX Designer — Digital Platform & Mobile App role is a project-based independent contractor position requiring a commitment of 10-20 hours per week, and is entirely remote. The designer will lead the creative and user-experience initiatives for the Developing Decoders Digital Platform and Mobile App. This involves collaborating with product and curriculum teams to create intuitive and visually appealing experiences that enhance foundational literacy and decoding skills for learners, educators, and families.

Requirements

Required:

• A strong portfolio demonstrating beautiful, functional UI/UX design work for web and/or mobile applications
• Proficiency in Figma (or comparable design tools such as Adobe XD or Sketch)
• Experience designing responsive web interfaces and native or cross-platform mobile apps
• A solid understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles
• Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate design decisions
• Ability to work independently, manage your own time, and meet project milestones

Preferred (but not required):

• Prior experience designing for EdTech, K-12 education, or literacy/learning apps — this is a meaningful plus
• Familiarity with designing for child and/or family audiences
• Experience working within an early-stage or startup product environment
• Basic understanding of front-end development constraints (HTML/CSS awareness helpful)
• TALL Stack experience a plus
• React Native experience a plus

Engagement Details

• Type: Independent Contractor (Project-Based)
• Hours: Minimum 10-20 hours per week
• Location: Remote
• Start Date: To be determined based on candidate availability
• Compensation: Competitive — commensurate with experience ($75.00 - $90.00 per hour)
