Job Description

Well Said is seeking a talented freelance Graphic Designer to join our creative team. This contractor will play an important role in the publishing services we provide to authors by creating compelling book cover designs and professionally typesetting manuscripts for publication. The ideal candidate has a strong creative eye, experience with book cover design and interior formatting, and the ability to manage multiple projects independently. Experience with Adobe InDesign is preferred. Because many of our clients are Christian pastors, ministry leaders, and theological academics, the ideal candidate should also be comfortable working with Scripture, theological sources, and ministry-related language and content.

Responsibilities

• Create three (3) original cover design concepts for each book project.
• Prepare approved cover designs for both print and digital formats.
• Revise one selected cover design for up to two (2) rounds of revisions.
• Typeset and format manuscripts of approximately 40,000–60,000 words for print and digital publication.
• Ensure manuscript interiors adhere to established formatting, margin, and layout guides.
• Prepare final design files for publication and distribution.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.
• Collaborate with the Well Said team and communicate clearly throughout each stage of the design process.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in graphic design, particularly book cover design, with a portfolio demonstrating creativity, versatility, and strong visual judgment.
• Proven experience with manuscript typesetting and interior book formatting.
• Proficiency in Adobe InDesign is preferred. Experience with comparable professional design software will also be considered.
• Comfort working with Christian, theological, academic, and ministry-related content.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a remote team.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail, particularly when preparing files for print and digital publication.

Compensation

Total Project Flat Rate: $1,000. This is a freelance, project-based contractor position. The flat rate covers the creation of three original book cover concepts, up to two rounds of revisions on the selected design, and typesetting and formatting of a manuscript of approximately 40,000–60,000 words for print and digital publication. Additional work outside the agreed-upon project scope may be compensated separately.
