Job Description
House Beautiful is seeking a Temporary Assistant Social Media Editor to help bring its editorial storytelling to life across social media platforms. The role will support audience growth, engagement, and brand awareness among design, home, decorating, and lifestyle enthusiasts.
Responsibilities include executing the cross-platform social media strategy; maintaining the social content calendar; supporting promotional plans for editorial initiatives and launches; and creating, scheduling, and publishing content across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and emerging platforms.
The Assistant Social Media Editor will also monitor performance and audience engagement, share insights with the editorial team, collaborate with editorial, art, commerce, and photo teams on social-first storytelling, and stay current on platform updates, trends, and best practices. The role will support daily publishing workflows and ensure content is optimized for each platform and delivered on schedule.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience creating or managing social media content for a publisher, media company, brand, or similar organization.
- Strong editorial judgment, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Passion for home, design, decorating, and lifestyle content.
- Knowledge of major social platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and emerging channels.
- Experience with social analytics and publishing tools such as TrueAnthem, Parse.ly, Dash Hudson, or similar platforms.
- Excellent organizational and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Creative thinking and an interest in social media trends and audience engagement strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree.

- This is a temporary position.
- The role is based in Hearst Magazines’ New York City office and requires onsite work.
- Compensation is $25.00 per hour.
- The position is not eligible for bonus or commission compensation.
