Job Description

We are seeking a Social Media Officer for a three-month contract with a local authority. The role will support the Council’s communication strategies and corporate priorities by creating engaging digital content, managing social media platforms and increasing public engagement.

The successful candidate will use creative storytelling, digital marketing, photography, video production and audience engagement skills to ensure residents receive timely, relevant and accessible information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and publish engaging content across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and YouTube.
  • Produce high-quality written content, including social media posts, articles, blogs and promotional materials.
  • Capture and edit photography and video content for digital campaigns.
  • Design graphics and multimedia content using approved design software.
  • Plan and schedule content in line with communication objectives and organisational priorities.
  • Monitor social media channels, respond to enquiries and engage with audiences professionally and promptly.
  • Support the delivery of communication and marketing campaigns across digital platforms.

Requirements

  • Experience managing and delivering content across multiple social media platforms.
  • A proven track record of creating successful social media campaigns and digital communication initiatives.
  • Proficiency in producing engaging written content for online audiences.
  • Skills in creating and editing photography and video content.
  • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent.
  • A qualification in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Media Studies or a related subject, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • GCSEs, or equivalent, in English and Mathematics.

Contract and Pay

  • Three-month contract with a local authority.
  • Rate: £20.97 per hour via umbrella.
  • Bi-weekly payment schedule.

Working Arrangements

  • 37 hours per week.
  • Working hours: 08:30 to 17:00, Monday to Thursday, and 08:30 to 16:30 on Fridays.
  • Hybrid working based in Brentwood and Rochford, with two to three days in the office and the remainder working from home.
  • The role requires a DVLA web check.
