Create approximately 50 hand-drawn minimalist illustrations for a fiction book about an autistic woman in her 50s who wonders whether the sea is her mother. Each image will depict the woman in the same position on a beach sloping toward the water, with subtle variation as required by the manuscript.

The visual approach should be restrained and literary: potentially a white background, simplified scenery, and no facial features. Artwork must be original, human-made illustration—AI-generated or anime-style work will not be considered.

Illustrations will share pages with text, so compositions need to work within limited available space and complement the page layout rather than occupy a full spread. Please be prepared to provide iterative drafts and final artwork with full ownership transferred upon completion.

The project is expected to run over 2–3 months, with work delivered in stages as illustrations are developed.

Budget range:
Medium project ($1,500 – 3,000 USD)

About the client
Hi, my name is Michael John Carley I wear a lot of hats in the autism world, which you can check out (if you’d like—it’s not a requisite) by perusing my shamelessly, self-promotional author website at www.michaeljohncarley.com. Almost ten years ago, I worked with an illustrator from Indonesia in a similar capacity (a graphic sex book for people on the autism spectrum that required roughly 70 illustrations) and I suspect he’d give me a good recommendation—Only in 1 or 2 instances did we need more than 3 drafts of a particular illustration. I also hope that you’ll discover that, while not wealthy, I’m pretty well-known, and would never risk my reputation to “screw” anybody. Thanks! mjc Michael John Carley
