The Be Free Campaign is a Liverpool-based charity committed to making mental health education and support accessible for children and families. At the heart of the organization is a clear mission statement:
“Our mission is to empower and support mental health in the future of young people, campaigning for change in our mental health infrastructure.”
By reducing stigma, encouraging open conversations, and fostering a community of empathy and resilience, the Be Free Campaign drives tangible change in young lives. One of its key initiatives involved creating a story-driven children’s book aimed at helping parents nurture their children’s emotional development. Each chapter introduces a different character, representing an emotion or characteristic—such as empathy, patience, confidence, or resilience—to offer relatable, age-appropriate scenarios for families to discuss together.
As the senior illustrator, I was privileged to bring this vision to life by crafting cohesive, engaging visuals that captured each character’s unique emotional journey. Working closely with the charity and its stakeholders, I ensured that the illustrations aligned with the book’s overall purpose: to help children identify, understand, and manage their feelings in a creative, supportive way, laying the groundwork for healthy emotional growth and open family communication.
