Job Description
As a Senior Graphic Designer at HMRC, you’ll play a crucial role in shaping our reputation through creative, effective communication. Your expertise in design and animation will be instrumental in delivering high-quality, customer-focused materials across multiple channels that build on the HMRC branding. You will lead specific areas of work or specialisms, contributing to both HMRC’s objectives and cross-government campaigns. Collaborating with others in the team, you’ll help establish Creative Services as a centre of excellence and support other designers in concept development and project management.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop innovative, creative design solutions from client briefs and manage production formats adhering to accessibility standards.
- Oversee the design development of workstreams while collaborating with other designers and possibly line managing two or three graphic designers.
- Lead design on campaign activities, translating complex messaging into effective creative output across various media.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to present work, incorporate feedback, and ensure project deliverables are met.
- Use customer insights to inform design decisions and manage multiple projects efficiently with proper project management tools.
- Stay updated on emerging design trends and bring innovation to projects while sharing knowledge with the team.
- Collaborate with project teams, keep organized notes, and coordinate feedback during project execution.
- Partake in extraordinary business activities, such as directing photo shoots and voiceover recordings, which may require travel.
- Participate in Government Communications Service activities to enhance wider communication efforts.
Requirements
Essential Criteria
- A degree or diploma in Graphic Design or equivalent experience.
- Expert use of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Firefly, Acrobat) and MS Office applications.
- For motion graphic specialists: proficiency in After Effects, Cinema 4D, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Audition, and Adobe Character Animator.
- Experience designing online/offline campaigns, mobile apps, websites, branding, interactive media, and corporate reporting.
- Knowledge of designing for print and digital with considerations on sustainability and accessibility.
- Excellent commercial awareness and client management skills.
- Exemplary verbal and written communication skills with experience in leading presentations and focus groups.
- Willingness to pursue communications professional body membership and relevant qualifications.

The technical skills required will be assessed through your portfolio of work, which should contain no more than five anonymised projects.
