Short-Form Video Editing for YouTube and Instagram
I need someone to edit videos for a starting podcast (not yet launched). The source recordings will be between 3-5 hours, but I only need multiple short, “highlight” cuts from each episode (2-10 mins.), and you will be given direction, which parts to cut, and how to cut.
Please note, this project requires high-level English proficiency.
Output per week:
- 2 short YouTube video edits (min. 2 mins., max. 10 mins.)
- 3 Instagram Reels edited with stock footage and captions (30-45 secs.)
Total out per month: 8 Short YouTube videos; 12 Instagram Reels
Monthly budget: $400
(Slightly negotiable depending on your skill and performance)
Treatment:
YouTube:
Straight cuts, dialogue should be cut to make the video engaging. Utilize sound effects, but sparingly. Use of stock footage, transitions and motion graphics would be required depending on the video topic, but not for every video, and to be used only minimally. The dialogue should be the highlight. You should have the intuition of knowing when to use visual and sound effects (and background music) and which ones/styles to use. Captions are not necessary except for dramatic effect.
Instagram:
Edit in the typical Instagram reel style with b-roll and animated captions. Only minor use of transitions, visual effects, and b-roll is required. The main thing is to always make the dialogue engaging.
Details about the podcast:
There will be two people 99% of the time, it is a remote podcast, where I am the host, and my friend who lives in another country co-hosts. We use Riverside.FM to record, so you will be given access to that, where you will be able to see the entire timeline and manuscript, and you can export a synced XML file from.
The podcast’s theme is art, philosophy, culture, and AI.
You will only edit the short-form content as described above, and I will edit the full-length cuts later on. I will also post-process all the audio after you’ve edited each video.
You will have a little bit of leeway when it comes to production time, as this is not yet being released. My plan is to batch produce content before launching. The target launch is in January, and once it is released, the output will have to be consistent. Keep in mind that this is a long-term project and the position will be regular.
As of now (Nov. 4) we have recorded 7 full sessions. I estimate at least 10 short YT clips can be cut from each, and at least twice that for Instagram.
About me:
I am a full-time creative director with a growing business on the side, and a couple of ongoing passion projects like this one.
You will receive guidance and direction from my end, but how you edit them will depend on your creativity. You will be expected to participate in pre-production Zoom meetings to discuss the work.
And while I personally prefer Premiere and After Effects, you can use Resolve or Final Cut, depending on your preference.
You will also be expected to log your progress on our Notion HQ.
I prefer to work only with passionate, intuitive people who have a knack for storytelling. Having the technical skills is good, but you should know how to use them to tell a good story.
If you are selected, you will be given a grace period to learn and acclimate to the concept and editing style, where your performance will also be tracked. At the end of this period, you will either pass and be given a contract for the long-term, or not. This will be paid, don’t worry. But once aboard, you will also be expected to eventually pick everything up and start to do things on your own with little to no supervision or further direction.
While it’s not a requirement, it will surely be a huge plus if you are also interested in the podcast’s theme and main topics of discussion.
I am hoping to fill this position and get the ball rolling within this month.
