Job Description

Taskforce is seeking a clever and creative freelance social media expert to manage the day-to-day operations of one Taskforce meme account focused on progressive political and other issues. This role reports to the VP of Content and will work cross-functionally with multiple departments, including Marketing, Design, and Audience. The ideal candidate is politically engaged, a creative thinker, fluent in viral and niche pop culture and news references, and possesses an obsession with the news cycle. The role requires meme creation in addition to account management, and candidates must provide examples of their funniest meme content.

Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day content and operations for 1 meme-focused Instagram account.
• Craft original content for various social media platforms (Instagram, Threads, TikTok, Reels, Bluesky, etc.) that aligns with the brand identity.
• Write witty and engaging copy for social media posts across platforms (including Reddit), reflecting client goals.
• Collaborate with the Marketing department for promotion and posting around IRL work using Meta Business Suite.
• Stay updated on the news to post when breaking moments occur.
• Contribute to team brainstorms and editorial meetings focused on current news.
• Analyze account performance using in-house data analytics to optimize content reach and engagement.
• Oversee community management to foster a highly engaged audience.
• Conceptualize and execute entertaining and innovative social franchises for Instagram Feed and Stories.
• Collaborate on Slack and participate in weekly Editorial Meetings.
• Identify emerging trends and seize opportunities for social coverage.
• Develop and nurture relationships with content creators for collaboration opportunities.

Requirements

• 2-3 years of social media strategy, design, and storytelling experience.
• Strong understanding of marketing and social media strategies.
• Proven track record in producing engaging memes and video content.
• Ability to write engaging, funny, and clean social media copy consistent with brand voice.
• Strong news judgment and a passion for social media platforms.
• Able to work in a fast-moving team and juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with progressive politics and social impact.
• Quick, creative mindset with skills in ideation and experimentation.
• Experience with live coverage events and availability for breaking news outside typical business hours.
• Preferably holds a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Proficient in meme creation using design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Canva, AI generators, etc.).
• Experience creating branded content is a plus.

Benefits

The hourly rate for this position is $30 for 15-18 hours per week.
