Job Description

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters (LCV) is seeking a part-time Social Media and Visual Content Fellow to support a campaign aimed at increasing voter turnout in the 2025 municipal elections in Detroit. This role offers 20 hours per week at a rate of $20 per hour, where the ideal candidate will create engaging social media content and visual storytelling pieces to educate Detroiters on voting rights and pressing issues while advocating for environmental protections and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and schedule original 313 Votes content across social platforms including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
  • Collaborate with DFA organizers to capture on-the-ground content from community events and voter engagement actions.
  • Monitor local and national news to create timely content that resonates with Detroiters.
  • Pitch creative content ideas that blend civic engagement with Detroit culture.
  • Highlight youth voices and community issues in relation to local elections.
  • Support ongoing campaigns with promotional and real-time content.
  • Work independently while tracking social media engagement and adjusting strategy as needed.
  • Attend team meetings to stay aligned with campaign goals.
  • Participate in Michigan LCV political election work such as canvassing and phone banking.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a college program focused on communications, public relations, marketing, design, journalism, or related fields.
  • Strong attention to detail with a track record of resolving errors and learning from mistakes.
  • Experience with content creation or editing for social media platforms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft, Google Suite, and visual content creation tools like Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Passion for civic engagement and social justice.
  • Self-starter with a problem-solver mindset and proactive approach to challenges.
  • Commitment to social and political change, integrity, and active listening.
  • Knowledge of Detroit’s neighborhoods is a plus.
  • Access to a smartphone with video capabilities; reliable transportation preferred.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Cultural competence regarding identity and equity.
  • Understanding of the intersection between environmental issues and social inequalities.

Compensation & Benefits

The Fellow will be compensated at a rate of $23/hour for up to 20 hours per week during this temporary fellowship, with a flexible schedule. Benefits include a flexible work arrangement.
