Freelance Illustrator, 2D animation artist, a graphic designer based in Nairobi, Kenya. Founder of BadBlk Studios and a member artist at Kuona Artists Collective, Nairobi, Kenya. Always grateful

I recently took a personality test and found out I was INFJ- I didn’t understand what this meant, but I came to learn later on, a big part of this personality,is helping others. I’m a Film Director, Animator, illustrator and Copywriter based in Nairobi Kenya, the city in the Sun. I specialize in working with Entrepreneurs and small businesses to grow, through creation of animation videos to help connect them with their audience, illustrations for their campaigns or by writing Copy to boost their sales. When I’m not working I do enjoy the occasional safari among Kenya’s decorated wildlife, or just taking in the beautiful scenery around me. But what really brings me satisfaction apart from helping others grow their dreams, is storytelling. In my spare time, I focus on building a startup, that will one day be able to tell African Stories through animations and share them with the world. I learn a lot about the needs of small businesses and entrepreneurs through my own experiences and through that I’m able to to guide my clients on the best approach to meet their needs. But don’t take my word for it. Read below what my clients have to say for yourself; "Reuben is an exceptional person and a gifted animator. His creativity and obvious talent were heightened by his work ethic. What great fortune to work with someone of his skill, imagination and gentle demeanor. It was sheer joy to watch the project unfold. As the project rolled on, communication continued to improve and his ability to explain the process helped me greatly. I would highly recommend Reuben to anyone looking to create animation shorts." - Nancy Angelini, " Reuben is talented and professional. His work speaks for itself. "- Leo Sam "I was very pleased to have Reuben provide the illustrations for my project, and I definitely would work with him again." - Thomas Thompson, Author Grooming Of Tut "Reuben did a fantastic job creating a set of characters for us. He followed our instruction and was very flexible with our requests. He has incredible talent. Thank you! We will come back for more." - Talida Barbe "Reuben has an excellent sense of color and volumetric design. He incorporates lots of real life reference images, and comes up with bold beautiful color combinations. Definitely raised the quality of the designs I have. If you are looking for Reuben -- his design, his colors, there is no replacement." - Minky Kwak, Entrepreneur "Great communication, timely delivery, very detailed finished product. Great job."

Frequently Asked Questions
Why hire an illustrator?

Here’s the thing:

As tempting as it might be to use stock art…

Your customers will spot it in an instant.

And do you know what they’ll think?

They’ll think you’ve taken shortcuts with your product.

You need an illustrator to produce original work if you want to showcase the time, effort and energy you’ve put into your work.

If that doesn’t convince you, here are three further advantages of commissioning original illustration work:

Retain creative autonomy

Working with stock art can force you to compromise on your product in order to make the artwork fit. Hiring a freelancer lets you tailor the art to your product.

Stand out from your competitors

90% of information processed by the brain is visual. An original, eye-catching illustration is an excellent way of setting yourself apart from the competition.

Keep your costs down

Top-quality stock art is expensive, with many providers locking you into an extensive subscription plan. An original illustration will not only be far-superior in quality, but often more cost-effective than stock art.

What are the advantages of hiring a freelance illustrator over an agency?

Great question!

Here are the top three advantages of hiring a freelance illustrator over an agency:

Price point

With office space, employee benefits and set working hours, agencies have high overheads factored into their costs. Hiring a freelancer cuts out the middleman and provides you with a top-quality result at an effective price point.

Top-notch illustrators will often start their careers at an agency before moving on to freelance work. This makes freelancers some of the most experienced & knowledgeable professionals in the game.

Most agencies target a broad market. Instead, many freelancers will specialize in a particular niche of illustration, such as children’s books or album artwork. This allows you to choose a professional who lives and breathes your particular project.
