Job Description

CNN Digital’s data and graphics team is growing and we are seeking an interdisciplinary journalist to join us. The journalist will be responsible for essential, creative, and groundbreaking journalism, working closely with teammates and other news desks. They will assist in finding, reporting on, analyzing, and visualizing data across various beats, including breaking news, policy, business, climate, health, inequity, and more. This role involves pitching and developing stories independently, as well as collaborating with others to create impactful visual and data-driven journalism. The position can be based in any of CNN’s major US bureaus with the option for remote work.

Requirements

• Experience in reporting and working with data visualization
• Ability to tell stories creatively through various mediums such as dataviz, interactive features, webGL, etc.
• Strong ability to pitch and develop original stories
• Collaborative mindset and comfortable working in cross-functional teams
• Familiarity with modern data and visualization tools, including Illustrator, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, D3, R, Python, SQL, and Excel
• Some familiarity with mapping tools such as Arc, QGIS, MapBox, Maps4News, etc.
• Proven newsroom experience or comparable data/visualization experience

Additional Information

Remote work and flexibility in the choice of location within CNN’s major US bureaus is possible.
